From the RW Team
Thanks for visiting our new home on the web. We continually strive to serve all the fantastic women in Rutherford County. It's because of our deep appreciation for all the talented, caring, dynamic women that we bring you a beautiful local magazine geared towards celebrating YOU.
So just how did Rutherford Woman begin? The initial seeds were planted years ago when we talked about the need for a stronger media presence that would focus on more local needs—for both the target female audience and for local businesses. At that stage, we didn't plan on publishing a magazine, but other events unfolded that ultimately led to the creation of Rutherford Woman.
Believe it or not, I (Rodney) became interested in the magazine industry because of the daytime soap opera The Young and the Restless. As a long-time, avid Y&R fan, I particularly enjoyed a storyline featuring a young couple who took great delight in publishing a magazine. I was struck by the notion that it seemed like a rewarding venture and soon thereafter, I began toying with idea of staring a publication.
While on a mission trip to Gulfport, Miss. after huricane Katrina, I (Kirk) came across a local magazine for senior citizens that caught my eye. Having a background in journalism, I thought, "We need somthing like that back home." I began to pray about it and God began to move. Rodney and I had been talking about doing some business projects together, and opportunties began manifesting.
We continued collaborating and discussed starting a magazine that would cater exclusively to women in Rutherford County. With our agreement to help each other in this new venture, a partnership was formed immediately. To our delight, out of the prayers and dreaming we did about exciting possibilities we were facing, Rutherford Woman was born. And as the saying goes, the rest is history!
